NEWSDESK SPECIAL EVENTS CALENDAR

WOODS 'N WHITES Sat, 7th March from 3:00pm. Proudly brought to you by Cooper & Lourie Optometrists. Despite the calendar clash with the popular Leeuwin weekend, many members enjoyed the genteel ambience of the late 1930's - with wooden tennis racquets, croquet on the lawn, cream tea followed by a refreshing glass of Pims! Captain Peter Rigg created some devilishly tricky rules throughout the afternoon to keep everyone on their toes - as if the heavy, small-headed wooden racquets were not enough of a handicap. Gales of laughter resounded throughout the courts - and members recovered with a glass of traditional home-made lemon cordial. Visitors and members old and young joined in the fun and were also introduced to croquet on the lawn - with plenty of helpers to hand to explain how to play the game. Patron Bill Marmion sportingly participated in the fun - and used his wooden racquet throughout the afternoon - by which time most other players had resorted to the comfort of their more modern lightweight sports equipment.

After the traditional Wimbledon-style afternoon tea, many (patient*) members enjoyed the sell-out celebration dinner. It was the most perfect balmy night and a very convivial atmosphere. No questions will be asked (or answered) about two gentlemen spotted changing shirts towards the end of the evening (although perhaps Dale and Lyn could be persuaded to tell the tale...) Thanks to countless people who worked tirelessly for this event - special thanks to Lillie Mercer for organising the croquet. It was particularly nice to see so many of our former members and social members joining in the fun.
